HOMETOWN HELP

One thing to know about me is that I moved to Virginia from New York when I was 13 years old. I was originally not happy to move because I knew I would miss my friends, but Virginia has provided me with a lot of opportunities that I did not know I was missing out on. Where I used to live, relatively no one was wealthy. Since moving here, I realized how limited my resources were in comparison to my new local area. One example is how Virginia has the International Baccalaureate program in high school. I took Full IB and graduated with the Full IB Diploma. Had I stayed in school in New York, I would have only been able to take 2 AP classes. I am grateful for taking IB because it allowed me to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in 3 years.

Since I have now lived in Virginia for a while, I’ve had a sudden urge to connect with old friends. After speaking with them about what we are all doing, and what goals we have, it has really opened my eyes to the difference in resources and opportunities. I have started to now think about other areas in New York who weren’t as fortunate as even my hometown…. I really want to do something to help so I have started a new project that I don’t want to speak about yet, until it’s done so my idea doesn’t get stolen. I am very excited to use my new resources, to help others who need more.
